Azerbaijan and Italy are moving successfully on all issues on the agenda, Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev said today during an expanded meeting with Italian PM Enrico Letta, who arrived in Baku on a visit.

"We are moving successfully on all items on our agenda, including political, economic, and energy issues. Italy and Azerbaijan, through the years, managed to establish a very close partnership, and of course, in the coming years I am sure this partnership will grow and reach a very high level," President Aliyev said.

The Azerbaijani President went on to note that Azerbaijan and Italy have a common understanding of necessity to elevate the relations between the two countries.

"We highly value your visit to our country, it is a good sign of friendship, and at the same time, good opportunity to address important issues of bilateral relations," President Ilham Aliyev underscored.

The Italian PM in his turn thanked President Aliyev for the opportunity to visit Azerbaijan, and discuss with the Azerbaijani government the issues of strengthening the joint cooperation between Azerbaijan and Italy.

"We had this great opportunity of the decision about the energy pipeline. The decision on TAP is, of course, very important for Italy, and for big part of Europe," Letta said. "So, I take the opportunity of this decision to say how important for us is today to strengthen our joint relationship."

The Italian PM underscored that it is important to strengthen the joint cooperation not only in energy field.

"We take the opportunity from the energy issues to strengthen and to elevate the cooperation to economic and to political issues," the prime minister underscored.

"We had a very good cooperation in Afghanistan with our troops, and of course, we would like to have an important change in economic cooperation," Letta said.

He also noted that Italy will have a high-level delegation to arrive in Baku in early November to strengthen the cooperation between Azerbaijan and Italy.

The Azerbaijani President and the Italian Premier signed a Joint Declaration during Enrico Letta`s visit.
