The absence of local enterprises on sugar processing is the key reason for export of sugar beans produced in the country to Turkey and Iran. The new factory built by Azersun Holding will enable to prevent the dependence of the country on import and capital outflow.
Major part of technical equipment of the sugar plant, the construction of which started in 2003 with the budget of $70m, was delivered from Germany. Last year the country imported 147,000 tons of sugar. The sugar production in the country makes up 18km per capita. At present 19 countries are involved in the sugar import.
