Turkey - No. 1 trade partner of Azerbaijan

Turkey ranked first in the list of Azerbaijan’s foreign trade partners in January-August 2016 with a trade turnover of $1.46 billion, which makes 12.88 percent of Azerbaijan’s total foreign trade, said a report of Azerbaijan’s State Customs Committee.

Previously, Italy ranked first in the list of Azerbaijan’s foreign trade partners for more than three years, except for February 2015, when the US was the leader.

As of August 2016, Italy dropped into the second place with a turnover of $1.28 billion (11.28 percent), followed by Russia - $1.2 billion (10.56 percent), Germany - $671.35 million (5.93 percent) and China - $539.56 million (4.76 percent), the report said.

The share of those countries in Azerbaijan’s total trade turnover is 45.41 percent.

Italy remains the main country importing Azerbaijani goods - $1.04 billion (18.01 percent).

Among the main countries, exporting goods from Azerbaijan, are Turkey ($726.66 million with a share of 12.55 percent), Taiwan ($467.18 million or 8.07 percent), Germany ($421.07 million or 7.27 percent) and Israel ($345.85 million or 5.97 percent), the report said.

The share of those countries in Azerbaijan’s total export is 51.87 percent.

Azerbaijan imported most of goods from Russia ($967.78 million), which is 17.47 percent of Azerbaijani imports in January-August 2016, followed by Turkey - $732.36 million (13.22 percent), China - $423.97 million (7.65 percent), the UK - $363.15 million (6.56 percent) and the US - $314.3 million (5.67 percent), the report said.

The share of those countries in Azerbaijan’s total import is 50.57 percent.

Azerbaijan’s foreign trade turnover with 173 countries totaled $11.33 billion in January-August 2016, which is 24.96 percent less than in January-August 2015. Azerbaijan carried out export operations in the amount of $5.79 billion, while import operations - $5.5 billion, the report said.
