The volume of agricultural production in Azerbaijan at actual prices amounted to 5.7 billion manat ($3.3 billion) from January through August 2020, which is 1.9 percent more compared to the same period of 2019, Trend reports referring to the published report of the State Statistical Committee.

According to the report, over the specified period, production in the livestock sector increased by 3.2 percent, surpassing 2.7 billion manat ($1.5 million), and in the field of crop production - by 0.6 percent, up to 2.9 billion manat ($1.7 million).

During the reporting period, the collection of spring crops continued in the country. At the beginning of September, over 2.9 million tons of grain and legumes (including corn) were harvested from the fields, which is 9.6 percent less compared to the same period of last year.

At the same time, 757,600 tons of potatoes were harvested, an increase of 7.6 percent over the year; 13.1 million tons of vegetables, an increase of 4.5 percent; 431,700 tons of melons, an increase of 4.1 percent; 398,200 tons of fruits and berries, an increase of 4.1 percent; 63,600 tons of grapes, an increase of 12.4 percent; 759.3 tons of tea, an increase of 30.7 percent; 3,800 tons of tobacco, an increase of 6.4 percent; 22,900 tons of sunflower, an increase of 27.1 percent.

In the first eight months of this year, 342,900 tons of meat were produced in Azerbaijan, milk - 1.4 million tons, eggs – over 1.3 million, and 15,500 tons of wool. On an annualized basis, meat production increased by 3.1 percent, milk - by 1.9 percent, eggs - by 6.6 percent, and wool - by 0.5 percent.

In addition, 446.6 tons of silkworm cocoons were produced in the country during the mentioned period.
