BAKU, Azerbaijan, December 12. The Azerbaijani government forecasts growth of production of vegetables and fruits for the period of 2024-2027, Trend reports.
This became known from the country's economic development forecast for the next four years.
In particular, the government expects to harvest 1.94 million tons of vegetables in 2024, and 2.02 million tons in 2025, then 2.07 million tons in 2026 and 2.114 million tons in 2027.
The potato harvest is targeted at 1.17 million tons next year, 1.25 million tons in 2025, 1.266 million tons in 2026 and 1.286 million tons in 2027.
According to government forecasts, the country is expected to harvest 1.4 million tons of fruits and berries in 2024, 1.48 million tons in 2025, 1.565 million tons in 2026 and 1.63 million tons in 2027.
The forecast is based on the government's plans to expand planting areas, including the territories of Karabakh and East Zangezur.
The data on fruit and vegetable harvest may be adjusted over time, taking into account climatic and other conditions.
According to the data of the State Statistics Committee of Azerbaijan as of the first of November 2023, the country harvested 989,300 tons of potatoes (4.0 percent less than the same period of 2022), almost 1.754 million tons of vegetables (1.4 percent more) and about 1.085 million tons of fruits and berries (2.4 percent more) in the first 10 months of the current year.
In 2022, the country harvested 1.823 million tons of vegetables from 65,400 hectares of land.
Also, last year, 1.074 million tons of potatoes were harvested from an area of 54,800 hectares.
According to the State Statistics Committee, 1.253 million tons of fruits and berries were harvested in Azerbaijan in 2022.
