Russian President Dmitry Medvedev assured that Moscow will continue to assist in resolving the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict, but both nations should seek to agreement.

However, Medvedev stressed that Nagorno-Karabakh conflict is one of the few frozen conflicts in Europe that can be solved, RIA Novosti reported.

At a meeting with the youth, Medvedev acknowledged that the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict has real difficulties, history, different understandings of legal structures and different set of interests.

"Russia will certainly assist in resolving the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict. This work will be continued," he said.

"In the final analysis, the resolution of this very complicated, but solvable problem depends on the goodwill of the two peoples and two presidents - if they will hear each other, make a little move towards each other and reach compromises," he said.

The conflict between the two South Caucasus countries began in 1988 when Armenia made territorial claims against Azerbaijan. Armenian armed forces have occupied 20 percent of Azerbaijan since 1992, including the Nagorno-Karabakh region and 7 surrounding districts.

Azerbaijan and Armenia signed a ceasefire agreement in 1994. The co-chairs of the OSCE Minsk Group - Russia, France, and the U.S. - are currently holding the peace negotiations.

Armenia has not yet implemented the U.N. Security Council's four resolutions on the liberation of the Nagorno-Karabakh and the surrounding regions.
