Azerbaijan, Baku, 2 August / Trend /

The Armenian Armed Forces opened fire at a Gazel truck on the Gazah-Gushchu Ayrim road in the village of Abbasbeyli in Azerbaijan.

The incident took place at about 16:00 yesterday. The driver was not harmed, but a passenger - a resident of Agkoynek, 27-year-old Iqbal Huseynov was shot in the back and taken to Gazakh diagnostic and treatment center, regional TV channel Turkel reported on Friday.

It should be noted that the incident took place near the lake in the village of Abbasbeyli located on the border with Armenia, where the victim was going for a swim. On the way back, the Gazel truck came under attack from Armenian soldiers.

The mentioned lake is located close to the enemy positions and Armenia is constantly violating the ceasefire in the area.

The conflict between the two South Caucasus countries began in 1988 when Armenia made territorial claims against Azerbaijan.

Armenian armed forces have occupied 20 per cent of Azerbaijan since 1992, including the Nagorno-Karabakh region and seven surrounding districts.

Azerbaijan and Armenia signed a ceasefire agreement in 1994. The co-chairs of the OSCE Minsk Group, Russia, France and the U.S. are currently holding peace negotiations.

Armenia has not yet implemented the U.N. Security Council's four resolutions on the liberation of the Nagorno-Karabakh and the surrounding regions.
