The Armenian president Robert Kocharyan depends on Moscow in all his actions and any of his moves are agreed with the Kremlin, a former advisor of the Azerbaijan’s president, a political analyst Vafa Guluzade told Trend on 25 October 2005, commenting on the statement of the Armenian president Kocharyan that “Russia is the key partner for Armenia”.
The political scientist reminded that in the past Kocharyan performed the functions of the Comsomol organization head of Nagorny Karabakh and after the breakdown of the USSR Russia used him as “the puppet in the game against Azerbaijan”.
В"It is Russia, not Armenia which occupied Nagorny Karabakh”, Guluzade underlined, noting, it was at the Moscow’s initiative that Kocharyan had been appointed “president” of the separatist regime in Nagorny Karabakh and further on, due to the Kremlin’s discontent by the efforts of Levon Ter-Petrosyan to settle the Azerbaijani-Armenian problem stage-by-stage, the latter had been ousted and Kocharyan became the head of the Armenian state.
A political analyst Rasim Musabekov reminded, in his turn, that Turkey and Azerbaijan are “traditional enemies” of Armenia, which also presupposes continuation of the course for rapprochement with Russia. В"Undoubtedly, without Russia’s support Armenia could not be able to occupy the Azerbaijani lands. Erevan would never have had sufficient resources for that”, the political analyst stressed, noting, the economic factor in this issue plays also a certain role”.
According to Musabekov, the major part of investments in the Armenian economy is made exactly from Russia, while the key trade partner Рѕf Azerbaijan is Turkey and the West. В"Both in economic and political sense Turkey does not lag behind Russia”, he said, reminding, the main consumer of the Azerbaijani oil is not Russia at all, which is also significant.
Along with this, a political analyst thinks, “it is also not proper to speak on the economic or political weakness of the Azerbaijan’s northern neighbor”. В"The links with Russia should be developed. However, Azerbaijan must not forget about the cooperation with the West’, a political scientist stressed in conclusion.
