Underground Tremor Occurred in Azerbaijani Shamakha Region

Azerbaijan, Baku, 4 June / Trend corr. K.Zarbaliyeva / On 3 June, underground tremors were observed in the Shamakha region of Azerbaijan, Gurban Yetirmishli, the Deputy Director of the Republic Earthquake-Detection Station at the National Academy of Science of Azerbaijan (NASA), told Trend on 4 June.

Similar underground tremors were observed in the Lankaran region on 29 May.

The latest earthquake, which caused damages, happened in the area of water of the Caspian Sea in November 2000.

Yetirmishli said that no damages and suffered were observed as a result of underground tremor in Shamakha and Pirgulu.

About 340 earthquakes happened in the country in 2008.

Shamakha region is located 160km north-west of Baku.
