Flood in Azerbaijan's Hajigabul region destroys 7 houses

Heavy rains in Azerbaijan's Hajigabul region (110km of Baku) seriously crippled 7 houses.

"It is not ruled out that the number of houses being in emergency situations will increase," the Chairman of the Emergency Situations Commission in the Hajigabul region, Sahib Abbasov told Trend on Sept. 23.

On Sunday - Sept. 21, heavy rains in the Nevahi and Ranjbar villages destroyed more than 300 homes. In addition, the territories of the Hajigabul region centre are remained under water. Further, the natural disaster also seriously crippled the Neftchala and Shirvan regions.

The Emergency Situations Minister, Kamaladdin Heydarov, Interior Minister, Ramil Usubov, as well as President of Azerenergy Joint Stock Company (JSC), Etibar Piriverdiyev, visited the scene of the incident. The Emergency Situation Minister has tasked the staff to promptly remove the consequences of the disaster. At present, the headquarters, led by the Deputy Emergency Situations, Etibar Mirzayev, is functioning to remove the consequences of the natural disaster.

The disaster seriously damaged agriculture of these regions, especially livestock. About 70 percent of the Hajigabul region centre was flooded. About 300 meters of railway tracks have gone out of order. No casualties were reported among the residents.

Abbasov said the water was pumped from cells and some facilities. "The energy supply to the Hajigabul region was resumed yesterday," he said.

As to the size of damage, caused by the heavy rains, Abbasov said at present two commission of the Emergency Situations Ministry is studying this issue. "The damage caused is too serious," the chairman of the commission said.
