Shooting on Azerbaijan-Iran border leaves one border guard dead

A border guard died as a result of shooting along the Azerbaijan-Iran border.
Armed persons attempted to violate the border from the direction of the Islamic Republic of Iran, outside the Arvana village service area border post in the Yardimli region. The incident occurred at 13:15 on July 3, the State Border Service told Trend.
A firearm was suddenly used against the border squad. As a result of the armed incident the Squad Head Lieutenant Rufat Guliyev was fatally wounded and died while being evacuated to the border post.
As the border guards prevented the intended violation of the state border, the armed assailants escaped to Iran.
Investigations are underway in connection with the incident.
