Azerbaijani embassy in Turkey to date not received any information about the affected citizens of Azerbaijan in the earthquake, consul Shohrat Mustafayev told Trend on Sunday.

Azerbaijani Embassy in Ankara and the consulate-general in Kars run enhanced mode and are in close contact with the citizens of Azerbaijan, who work or study in the province of Van, where the earthquake occurred. According to information received from them and from the local authorities' data, among the victims there are no citizens of Azerbaijan, said the consul.

An earthquake measuring 7.2 occurred in the Van province on Sunday. The Head of Seismological Observatory of the Bosphorus University, Mustafa Erdik previously reported that the death toll from the earthquake in Van province may be about a thousand people.

50 dead bodies as a result of earthquake in the southeastern Turkish province of Van were taken in hospital in Erdzhish County, that was at the epicenter of the earthquake, Cihan agency reported.

According to the consul, Azerbaijan's Ministry of Emergency Situations' plane with rescuers, equipment and necessary household supplies for the victims - blankets, warm clothes, medicines - has arrived in Turkey and in the next few hours the rescuers begin rescue operations.
