Return of the Azerbaijani sailors and dead body of captain of the Turkish tanker Edirne, which sank in the Adriatic Sea, will be ensured by ship owner - Saygi Denizcilik ve Elektrik company, Azerbaijani Foreign Ministry spokesman Elman Abdullayev told Trend on Wednesday, adding that it is envisaged by the International Labour Organization’s Convention.

Return of the Azerbaijani sailors and dead body of captain of the Turkish tanker Edirne, which sank in the Adriatic Sea, will be ensured by ship owner - Saygi Denizcilik ve Elektrik company, Azerbaijani Foreign Ministry spokesman Elman Abdullayev told Trend on Wednesday, adding that it is envisaged by the International Labour Organization's Convention.

Turkish tanker Edirne sank after an explosion in cargo tank on Jan. 15, three miles from Albanian Port of Durres in the Adriatic Sea. The tanker unloaded more than 3,000 tons of fuel in the port and was leaving the port.

The explosion killed three crew members, including an Azerbaijani citizen - captain of the ship Khayyam Mammadov.

Six of 15 crew members of the sunken tanker were Georgian citizens, four Azerbaijani citizens, three Turkish and two Ukrainian citizens.

Azerbaijani sailors Arif Amrahov, Safa Ibrahimov and Ramil Melikov are now at one of the hotels and their health state is normal, Abdullayev said with reference to Azerbaijani Embassy in Albania with residence in Greece.

The Embassy keeps the issue under control and of necessary will join the process of preparation of sailors' documents for their return to home, Abdullayev said.

Tanker Edirne IMO 7704291 with deadweight of 4,112 tons was built in 1980. It was flying the flag of Sierra Leone. The operator of the vessel is Saygi Denizcilik Ve Elektrik.
