Georgian President visits regions affected by flood and landslide

The Georgian President Mikheil Saakashvili visited the disaster zone in the region of Samegrelo, western Georgia. President Saakashvili visited Obuji village most affected by flood and landslide. Local resident Nana Kutelia's house was destroyed as a result of landslide.

Rescuers were able to save Kutelia and her children at the last moment.

The president promised to assist Kutelia and other villagers, who were also affected by the landslide.

Saakashvili ordered the special services to restore houses if it is possible to repair them or to allocate funds to construct houses.

According to the preliminary data, about 100 houses were damaged as a result of landslide in several villages. Other residents were evacuated in fear of recurrence of the landslide.

About 8,000 people have no electricity in Samegrelo region up to now. Hundreds of houses were flooded, bridges were destroyed as a result of flooding. One person was injured in house collapse and was taken to hospital.

Saakashvili has interrupted his visit to Baku after he knew about the disaster in Georgia.
