Opposition Party Accuses Executive Powers of Regions

Azerbaijan, Baku / corr. Trend I. Alizade / Serious problems arisen in the conduct of a conference by the Popular Front of Azerbaijan Party can be a cause its postponement. Hasan Kerimov, the PFAP deputy chairman on organization issues, said. "Local executive powers do not allow the regional and city organizations of the party to hold preparatory conferences. Regional and city organizations of the party have appealed to executive powers to provide them with premises to hold a conference, but no place was provided," the PFAP deputy chairman added.

Several months ago the PFAP presidium adopted a decision to hold a conference by the end of 2007. Organization commission was set up to hold preparation for the forum. The party presidium is expected to deliver a report, elect the party's new chairman and to put forward the PFAP's candidate for presidency during the conference.

APFP was evicted from its office building situated on 33 Khagani street after 13 years accommodation there.

"Unless we hold preparatory meetings by the end of the year the conference will be adjourned spring of 2008," he said.

Oppositional party PFAP is currently a co-founder and a member of Azadlyg bloc, a largest opposition alliance.

The founder of the PFAP and ex-president of Azerbaijan Abulphaz Elchibay led the party by 2000. Ali Kerimli, ex-secretary of state and former MP is the chairman of the party since 2000.
