GUAM Countries Submitted to UN Draft Resolution on "Lingering Conflicts"

GUAM ( Georgia, Ukraine, Azerbaijan and Moldova) countries submitted to UN a draft resolution on 'lingering conflicts'.

The 'four' calls on the nations to confirm the territorial integrity of countries, where the separatist ethnic groups have been maintenance since the Soviet period - Nagorno-Karabakh in Azerbaijanе, Abkhaz and Tzinkhvali regions in Georgia and Trans-Dniester in Moldova.

Azerbaijan, Georgia, Moldova and Ukraine indicated in the draft resolution that the lingering conflicts still threaten peace and stability in the region, calling the countries and international organizations to assist in the resolution of conflicts in the area of GUAM.

GUAM countries reminded of rights of refugees from the ethnic conflict zones and the necessity of observing the security guarantees for their repatriation and living, as well as rights and freedoms of all ethnic groups in these areas.

The draft document also specifies "to include in the initial agenda of the 63rd session an item on "Lingering conflicts in the territory of GUAM and consequences for the international peace, security and development".
