Azerbaijan, Baku, 29 January corr. Trend S. Agayeva / Baku and Moscow have once again returned to the issue of the broadcasting of Russian RTR-Planeta TV channel in Azerbaijan. Khalaf Khalafov and Grigory Karasin, the deputy foreign ministers of Azerbaijan and Russia respectively discussed the broadcasting of the RTR-Planeta TV channel, the Ministry for Foreign Affairs of Russia said on 29 January.

The broadcasting of the RTR-Planeta TV channel in Azerbaijan was terminated from 1 January in accordance with the decision of the National Radio and TV Council of Azerbaijan (NRTC). Baku supports the broadcasting of Russian and Azerbaijani TV channels on an equal basis.

RTR-Planeta was broadcasted in line with the bilateral agreement.

The broadcasting of the Russian First Channel was terminated on 11 July 2007. NRTC attributed this to the fact that Russia did not broadcast Azerbaijani TV in its country. The broadcasting of the RTR-Planeta on the national frequencies of Azerbaijan was then extended until September. An agreement was made in Azerbaijan on the broadcasting of RTR-Planeta in late July and a working group was set up for the mutual broadcasting of the state TV channels in Azerbaijan and Russia.
