Azerbaijani Defense Minister Participating in NATO Informal Summit

Azerbaijan, Baku, 7 February / corr Trend S.Agayeva / An informal meeting of NATO military ministers commenced in Vilnius in Lithuania on 7 February with representatives from a quarter of the world countries participating in the event.

The 2-day meeting in Vilnius will focus on global security issues, solving problems relevant to the alliance, as well as important topics involving the international community, including peace and the economic development of Afghanistan and Kosovo, NATO's cooperation with other partners, Kudzmanas Kastutis, the Lithuanian Ambassador to Azerbaijan, told Trend on 7 February.

Along with the delegation from NATO member-countries and military ministers, representatives from countries which joined the international peacekeeping operations in Kosovo and Afghanistan, as well as Ukraine, Russia, Afghanistan, UN, the European Commission, the World Bank and other influential international organizations will also be in attendance.

Colonel General Safar Abiyev will represent Azerbaijan in the forum, the Defense Ministry said. As part of the participation in the summit, the Azerbaijani delegation will hold bilateral and trilateral meetings.

The summit includes 5 different meetings, including a meeting with NATO military ministers, NATO consultations and Ukrainian commissions, the Russian-NATO Council, discussions regarding the Afghanistan and Kosovo position with the participation of all countries involved in the peacekeeping operations.
