Azerbaijan, Baku, 14 February/ corr. Trend G. Jabiyev/ The ruling New Azerbaijan Party of Azerbaijan (NAP) announced that the presidential elections in the country will be held in line with the European standards and principles.
"The government is interested in holding the elections as per the European standards and principles," Ali Ahmadov, the deputy chairman and the executive secretary of YAP said during his meeting with Alaina Guidetti, the ambassador of Switzerland Confederation to Azerbaijan, on 14 February.
In October 2008, the regular presidential elections will be held in Azerbaijan. The ruling New Azerbaijan Party will support Ilham Aliyev- the chairman of the party and current President.
On his part, the ambassador said that the ruling party will achieve its goals in the presidential elections in Azerbaijan. According to diplomat, there is a normal election atmosphere in Azerbaijan.
In 1992, NAP was founded in Nakhichivan Autonomous Republic of Azerbaijan by Heydar Aliyev- the former President of Azerbaijan. The current chairman of the party is Ilham Aliyev.
