Azerbaijani Opposition Party to Reconsider Participation in Presidential Elections

Azerbaijan, Baku, 5 March / Trend corr. G.Jabiyev / The Azerbaijani opposition Great Establishment Party (GEP) will reconsider the decision to participate in the upcoming presidential elections. "Our party made the decision to participate in the elections with our own candidate, but this issue will be reconsidered on the threshold of the presidential elections," MP Fazail Gazanfaroglu, GEP Chairman said to Trend .

The presidential elections will be held in Azerbaijan on 15 October 2008.

Azadlig bloc, which unites three opposition parties, stated it would boycott the elections if no changes take place in the composition of election commissions. Musavat, National Independence and Democratic parties of Azerbaijan made the decision to participate in the elections, but the parties may reconsider participation on the threshold of the presidential elections.

If no conditions for democratic and fair elections are created, GEP will boycott the elections.

The GEP was founded by Gazanfaroglu in 2004. The party took part in the 2005 parliamentary elections.
