PACE to Discuss Issue on Azerbaijan

Azerbaijan, Baku, 6 March /corr. Trend I.Alizade / The meeting of Monitoring Committee of the Parliamentary Assembly of Council of Europe (PACE) will focus on the issues regarding Azerbaijan. "The meeting will listen to the report about Azerbaijan by PACE co-rapporteurs-Andreas Herkel and Yevgeni Jivkova, as a result of their visit to Azerbaijan," the Head of the Azerbaijani delegation to the PACE, Samed Seyidov, reported to Trend on 6 March.

The meeting of the Monitoring Committee will take place on 18 March in Paris.

Seyidov said that the meeting of the Monitoring Committee is not expected to make any decisions regarding Azerbaijan.

"It will be only a next meeting, and discussions. A report should be presented to make any decisions as document. The meeting of the Monitoring Committee will not discuss the report, but will only listen to the report as a result of visit of the co-rapporteurs," Seyidov added.

Azerbaijan will be represented at the meeting by Samed Seyidov.

On 1 Jan 2007, Azerbaijan joined the Council of Europe and undertook obligations.
