Azerbaijan Deny Information about Detention of Georgian Opposition Leaders

Azerbaijan, Baku, 7 March / Trend corr. N.Kirtskhalia, K.Zarbaliyeva / Leaders of Christian-Democratic Movement (CDM) of Georgia were detained in Azerbaijan; CDM press-centre reported Trend in Tbilisi on 7 March. "Leaders were detained in Saingilo ( Azerbaijan's Gakh region)".

Press-service was not informed about the reasons of detention. Police brought party leaders, Giorgi Targamadze, Giorgi Akvlediani, Zazu Gabunia and Magdu Anikashvili to the Police Station.

CDM leaders visited Azerbaijan to get familiar with the problems of Georgians residing in Azerbaijan.

Gakh region Police Department denied the information about arrest of CDM leaders.

The department has confirmed that CDM leaders appealed to the department about the continuation of their demonstrations. In response, the leaders were advised to appeal to the Executive Power of the region to sanction the demonstration.

Akif Rzayev, Prosecutor of Gakh region, stated to Trend that the information about arrest of CDM leaders has no grounds.
