Baku Central Police Office Investigates Injury to Journalist

Azerbaijan, Baku, 14 March / Trend corr S. Ilhamgizi, K. Zarbaliyeva/ Investigations are underway into the stabbing of an employee of the Azerbaijan's Azadlig newspaper by unidentified persons. A criminal case has been filed, the Yasamal Prosecutor's Office told Trend .

On 13 March, at 8.00pm Agil Khalil, a journalist of the Azadlig newspaper, was stabbed in the chest by unknown assailants. He was immediately taken to the Clinical Medical Centre where he was operated on.

The Prosecutor's Office reported that a criminal case was filed into the case relating to Article 128 of the Criminal Code (deliberate injury). The motive for the crime is yet unknown.

The criminal case was transmitted to the Baku Central Police Office. The Interior Minister Ramil Usubov and the Prosecutor General Zakir Garalov undertook control of the investigation, the Spokesman for the Interior Ministry Sadig Gozalov told Trend .

The director of the Azadlig Azer Ahmadov told Trend that the condition of the journalist is satisfactory. The head of the Yasamal Police Office and the head of Police Office-26 have examined the scene of the crime and have also interrogated the victim. According to Ahmadov, Agil Khalil had memorised the face of his attacker. The assailants had been pursuing him for 15 days.
