Drug Trafficking Increasing in Azerbaijan’s South-Western Region

Azerbaijan, Barda, 7 May / Trend corr Sh. Jaliloglu/ The number of drug addicts and people engaged in drug trafficking has increased in the Barda region in Azerbaijan, Agalar Maharramov, head of Barda Police Office said to Trend .

The number of drug-related crimes increased by 26 cases within the four months of this year as compared to the same period of 2007. In January to April 2007, 7 drug-related crimes were revealed.

According to Maharramov, 33 drug trafficking cases with 21 of them drug trade were registered in January to April 2008.

A total of 96 crimes were registered in Barda in January to April, with 94 of them solved (17 robbing, 7 hooliganism cases, 1 deliberate murder, 10 traffic incidents).

Barda is located 320km south-west of Baku.
