Georgia, Tbilisi, 21 May / Trend corr. E.Rustamov / More violations were observed during the parliamentary elections in Georgia on 21 May than the presidential elections on 5 January 2008. "We did not expect that so much violations would happen in the parliamentary elections,' David Gamkrelidze, one of the leaders of the United Opposition of Georgia, stated on 21 May.
The voting was being held in a state of sharp political struggle between the ruling party National Movement and opposition, which tries to gain revenge after the presidential elections. Nine parties and three blocs participated in the elections.
"Local administration, representatives of National Movement together with the police came to the polling stations and expelled members of the United Opposition from the election commissions. Even finger marking liquids were useless in most of the stations," Gamkrelidze said to Trend . "I have good experience in the sphere of elections but I have never seen anything like this, it is a criminal act," Gamkrelidze stated.
Gamkrelidze called upon the Georgian government to stop violations against the opposition representatives immediately. "Otherwise, population will go to state officials cabinet and threw them out of their own offices,' Gamkrelidze said.
Gamkrelidze stated that most violations of the election process were observed in Gardaban, Borjomi, Khashuri, Tianeti, Mtskheta, Chokhatouri, Dedoplitskaro and Signagi regions.
