Azerbaijan, Baku, 27 May / Trend corr. J.Babayeva / The opposition Democratic Party of Azerbaijan (DPA) consider the work by the OSCE and Council of Europe Venice Commission negligible. This was said by Taliyat Aliyev, Deputy Chairman of DPA, said in a round table organized by the Umid party regarding the draft on amendments and supplements into the Election Code.

The presidential elections in Azerbaijan will be held on 15 October 2008. The draft on amendments and supplements has been introduced into the Election Code after the joint discussions between the Azerbaijani government and Council of Europe Venice Commission.

According to Aliyev, the democratic forces of the country should appeal to international organization with which the Azerbaijani government holds negotiations. "These organizations and the government must develop a report about their negotiations regarding the amendments and supplements into the Code. So far the Venice Commission has not stated it positions towards this issue," Aliyev said.

Democratic elections are not possible in the country if the new Election Code is adopted by the Parliament, Aliyev said. "Both Azerbaijani Government and international organizations stand responsible for hindrance in the democratic elections," minister said.

At present, the draft on amendments and supplements into the Election Code were passed by the Parliamentary Commission on Legal Policy and State Building, and the project will be discussed by the Parliaments on 30 May.
