Cassation Appeal of Activist of Azerbaijani Opposition Party to be Considered

Azerbaijan, Baku, 31 /corr. Trend E.Babayev / Cassation appeal by the member of the Board of Imishli district organization of opposition Azerbaijan National Independence Party (ANIP), Musa Rahim, will be considered on 3 June, lawyer Ennagi Mammadli, reported to Trend on 30 May.

Rahim was arrested in 2006. He was found guilty in compliance with hooliganism (article 221.3), resistance against representative of power (article 315.1) of the Criminal Code of Azerbaijan Republic and sentenced to five years in prison.

The lawyer said that the accusations against his client are groundless. Rahim held at his home demonstration against corruption with regards to education in Imishli district. In addition, he hung slogans at his home to protest against it. "He did not allow his children to go school to protest against it. After this, he was slandered and arrested," the lawyer said, saying that they made an appeal on judgment of Court of Appeal of Ali-Bayramli (Shirvan) District. The case was taken into execution by the Supreme Court and the process will be headed by judge Vidadi Hashimov.

ANIP was rhe first party received registration in Azerbaijan in 1992. Etibar Mammadov had been the founder and chairman of the party by 2004. Presently, Mammadov is the deputy chairman of the International Democratic Alliance.
