Azerbaijan’s Opposition Leader to Meet French President

Azerbaijan, Baku, 6 June / Trend corr E. Babayev/ Etibar Mammadov, leader of the Azerbaijan National Independence Party (ANIP), will participate in the meeting of the heads of e International Democratic Union, to take place in Paris on 25-26 June. ANIP reported on 6 June that the chairman of the International Democratic Union John Howard, former Prime Minister of Australia, has sent a written invitation to Mammadov.

Since 1996, ANIP has been a member of the International Democratic Union uniting 82 right-centrist parties from 63 different countries.

The subject mainly discussed at the meeting will be 'Right-centrist parties in the 21st century'. Moreover, attention will be paid to international and regional issues, as well as to democratization process on-going in the world.

On 25 June, the French President Nicola Sarcozy will receive the participants of event at the Elisey Palace.

ANIP, the first officially registered in Azerbaijan party, was founded in 1992. Etibar Mammadov, the founder of the party, was the chairman till the end of 2004. For the time being, Mammadov is the deputy chairman of the International Democratic Union.
