Azerbaijan is Showcase of Progressive Muslim Women’s Rights

Azerbaijan, Baku, 25 June / corr. Trend S. Agayeva/ Azerbaijan as a part of the Silk Way located at the crossroad of civilizations is showcase of progressive Muslim women's rights, Gene Ward, member of the Committee for International Relations of the Legislative Chamber of Hawaii State of the United States and MP said.

In her article Muslim Women issue clarion call for more rights, Education, dialogue major ingredients for better understanding published in Honolulu Advertiser newspaper, the author compared Azerbaijan with Hawaii, stating that Azerbaijan is a country where representatives of various nationalities and religions, Muslims, Jews and Christians live in peace.

The MP who attended the international conference 'Role of Women in a Dialogue between Civilizations', organized by the Heydar Aliyev Foundation in Baku from 10 to 11 June, quoted Mehriban Aliyeva, President of the Foundation and the First Lady of Azerbaijan, writing that women in Azerbaijan were granted the right to vote earlier than in America.

According to author, the Baku conference attended by the scholars, diplomats and senior officials from over 50 countries all over the world hit a home run in empowering Muslim women. The conference adopted Baku Declaration which calls on to secure dialogue between West and East, men and women, Muslims and non-Muslims to strengthen the mutual understanding.

Gene Ward is one of those who support US-Azerbaijan partnership in the Legislative Chamber of Hawaii. Ward initiated a gratitude declaration to Azerbaijan during the visit by Elin Suleymanov, the Consul General of Azerbaijan in Los Angeles, to Hawaii.
