Azerbaijan, Baku, 6 August / corr. Trend E.Babayev / Flora Kerimova, the Azerbaijani popular actress, stated that she would participate in the presidential elections. "Surely, I will participate in the presidential elections. I approach everything as new," Kerimova told Trend on 6 August.
The presidential elections will be held in Azerbaijan on 15 October. Azadlig bloc, uniting three opposition parties, including the Popular Front, the Liberal and the Civil Development, and the Classical Popular Front party decided to boycott the presidential elections. The opposition Musavat, the Civil Solidarity, the Democratic and the Great Establishment parties refused to participate in the elections with own candidates.
So far, a total of 11 people appealed to the Central Elections Commission (CEC) for the participation in the presidnetial elections. The current President Ilham Aliyev, the chairman of the ruling New Azerbaijan Party, Mais Gulaliyev, the chairman of the Greens Party, Gudrat Hasanguliyev, the chairman of the Azerbaijani Unified Popular Front Party, Hafiz Hajiyev, the chairman of the Muasir Musavat party, Fuad Aliyev, the chairman of the Liberal Democratic Party, and Igbal Agazade, the chairman of the Umid Party, submitted their documents to the CEC. Moreover, Yashar Ahmedov (the unemployed), Alimukhtar Aberov (a pensioner), Sevinj Guliyeva (a junior nurse of the Sumgayit Central Clinic Hospital), Vugar Seyidov ( a doctor), Gudrat Isagov (senior scientist of the Physics Institute the Azerbaijani National Academy of Sciences) submitted their documents to the CEC, as well.
After death of Abulfaz Elchibey, the chairman of the Azerbaijnai Popular Front Party (APFP), Kerimov actively joined the poltical process. In 2000 after the collapse of the APFP, she continued her political activity in calssical wing of this organization under Mirmahmud Miralioglu's leadership.
Kerimova refused to publicize for whom she would vote. She said that she would never be engaged in politics. " My return to politics is out of question. I obviously state that I have left the politics completely."
Kerimova said that she did not participate in any meeting of the opposition. "I left the politics voluntarily. I want to mention that I was not a member of any party by 2000. I was a member of a party after Elchibey's death," Kerimova said and mentioned that she participated in the elections in 2005. She said that she was not satisfied with the results of the elections and after this, made a final decision to leave the politics.
