Azerbaijan, Baku, 21 August / Trend corr. V.Javoronkova / Russia is to deploy several peacemaking posts in the territory of Abkhazia soon to protect population, A.Nogovitsin, the Deputy Chief of Russian General Staff, said at the briefing in Moscow.
According to Nogovitsin, the main water supply has been repaired, the republic hospital started working, construction materials are delivered to damaged areas and bread and medicals are distributed to population.
"Over 1t explosive material has been revealed. The humanitarian aid in the region is higher compared to the beginning," Nogovitsin sadi.
Large-scale military operations commenced in the unrecognized South Ossetia republic in the early morning of 8 August. Georgian Army was reported to enter Tskhinvali on 9 August. Official Tbilisi says the events are Restoration of the Constitution Regime. The unrecognized South Ossetia wants assistance from Russia. On 12 August, the Russian President Dmitry Medvedev announced ceasefire; however, the Russian troops have not yet been withdrawn from Georgia.
