Russia to Place Military Base on Territory of South Ossetia
On 2 September, Russia and South Ossetia will sign an agreement on friendship and co-operation between the two countries. According to the agreement, Russian military base will be placed on the territory of South Ossetia, the Chairman of Parliament of South Ossetia, Znaur Gassiyev, briefed the media, RIA Novosti reports.
According to him, the President of South Ossetia put the parliament of the republic in charge of preparing all necessities for this.
On 26 August, the President of Russia, Dimitry Medvedev, signed an order recognizing independence of South Ossetia and Abkhazia and charged the Foreign Ministry of Russia to begin talks to establish diplomatic relations with these republics.
