Azerbaijan Pursues Vectorial, Pragmatic, Balanced Policy in Region: Strategic Research Centre

Azerbaijan, Baku, 24 September / Trend corr. R.Novruzov/ Azerbaijan is pursuing vectorial, pragmatic and balanced policy in the region, Elkhan Nuriyev, Director of the Strategic Research Centre attached to the Azerbaijani Presidential Administration, said at the Azerbaijan 2008: Presidential Elections and Strategy of Foreign Policy round table in Moscow on 24 September.

Azerbaijan is the most stable, dynamically developing, open and tolerant country in the region and its economy is rapidly developing, Nuriyev quoted participants of the round table in a conversation with Trend from Moscow on 24 September.

Nuriyev said that Azerbaijanїs diversified policy is intended to establish a just and rational new international and economic order.

According to Nuriyev, Russian experts participating in the round table many times stressed the geopolitical and geoeconomic importance of Azerbaijan in Caucasus, Black Sea and Caspian regions. Moreover, they underlined the stateїs balanced foreign policy on acute regional and international issues.

About 50 political experts, renowned political scientists from Russia participated in the round table. Domestic political situation in Azerbaijan was a separate topic at the discussions.

їI spoke about the election campaign carried out in Azerbaijan in the run-up to the presidential elections scheduled for 15 October. Prospects of Russia-Azerbaijan relations, settling of the Armenia-Azerbaijan Nagorno-Karabakh conflict were discussed.
