Azerbaijan, Baku, 20 November / Trend corr. J.Babayeva/ The United
States and Russia have much more common ground in Azerbaijan for cooperation
than for conflicts, said Elkhan Nuriyev, the head of the Centre for Strategic
Studies at the Azerbaijani President's Office.
"Today Azerbaijan is the field where Moscow and Washington successfully
cooperate. The Kremlin and the White House are interested in maintaining a
strong and long-term stability in Azerbaijan. Azerbaijan is the country of the
former Soviet space where the strategic interests of the United States and Russia coincide," Elkhan Nuriev, the Director of the Centre for Strategic Studies
at the Azerbaijani President's Office, said during the round table entitled Azerbaijan
in the 21st Century - Strategy of Success in Baku on 20
November.
According to Nuriyev,
the government maintains a strategic line in the evolution of integration into
European structures and good neighbourly relations with countries in the
region, taking into account the national interests of Azerbaijan.
"Pursuing a balanced policy, Azerbaijan has strengthened not only its positions
in the international arena, but also in the field of national security.
President prevented Azerbaijan from turning into an arena of political rivalry,
and therefore it is not surprising that the power centres of the world politics
maintain Ilham Aliyev's pragmatic and multi-vector foreign policy," said
Nuriyev.
