Embassy investigates presence of Azerbaijanis among the victims of a series of
attacks in the Indian city of Mumbai (Bombay).
This town is home to only one Azerbaijani. According to the Embassy, he is
alive and in good health, Azerbaijani Ambassador to India Tamerlan Garayev reported
to Trend by telephone from New Delhi.
Now the Embassy employees are working with local law enforcement agencies and
inquire whether there were tourists from Azerbaijan in the areas of attacks,
said Garayev.
According to recent reports, which are broadcast in breaking news on television,
more than 100 people died as a result of explosions and gunfire in 10 locations
around the city on 27 November. "The number of wounded reached 300," said ITAR-TASS news agency. There are seven British citizens among the injured. Physicians
acknowledge that some of the victims are in serious health condition. At the
same time, 16 police officers have been reported killed in the shootings with
terrorists, 18 police officers were injured. Five attackers were neutralized.
Not popular Deccan Mujahideen organization assumed the responsibility for the
terrorism attacks. The organization sent an electronic message to media.
According to Reuters, the militants captured 15 foreign tourists in the Taj
Mahal Hotel. According to unverified data, a few people were taken hostages in the
Trident Hotel.
