Journalists address Russian, Georgian presidents

Georgia, Tbilisi, Dec. 22 / Trend , N.Kirtskhalia/ Participants of the 5th international conference of journalist GENDER AND MEDIA, WAR AND PEACE: challenges and overcoming taking place in Tbilisi sent a message to the presidents of Georgia and Russia.

Journalists urge presidents to launch direct negotiations in order to achieve a real cease-fire, to restore all-out diplomatic relations; necessary conditions for return of internally displaced persons, security and life conditions to civilians; the right to freedom of movement in the conflict zone; permanent channels of communication and information exchange between parties to the conflict; conditions for a continuous public monitoring of the situation in the conflict zone and for an international rapid response team on human rights; a unified structure on missing people, prisoners of war and civilians held by the warring parties; free access to information for media, public and human rights organizations.

On behalf of the initiative group the message was signed by representatives of Russia, Ukraine, Azerbaijan, Georgia and Armenia.
