UN Secretary General plans to visit Turkmenistan in 2009 году

Turkmenistan, Ahsgabat, Dec. 26 /corr. Trend E.Hasanov / The UN Secretary General, Ban-Ki Moon, plans to visit Turkmenistan in 2009 within the expected tour to Central Asia, the letter to the President of Turkmenistan, Gurbangulu Berdimuhammadov, says.

"I attach great significance to Central Asia and its future. For me it is great honor to obtain invitations from several countries to visit Central Asia, the possibility, which with impatience, I hope to consider in the near convenient time next year," the letter says.

According to him, the United Nations Regional Center for Preventive Diplomacy in Ashkhabad and the representations of the United Nations in the region will work together for ensuring more harmonious assistance from the organization and support of regional efforts. 

In addition, Ban-Ki Moon congratulated Berdimuhammadov on the recent meeting with the Presidents of the countries of Central Asia within the CIS summit in Bishkek and the important agreements reached on the questions of energy.

"The dialogue is the best way of strengthening good neighborly relations and mutually beneficial co-operation between states," the UN Secretary General writes.
Also the diplomat thanked Berdimuhammadov for inviting Mr. Miroslav Ench, special representative and head of the United Nations Regional Center for Preventive Diplomacy in Central Asia, for participation at the meeting.

"He told me that the discussions were constructive and full of foremost views. I support your use of the possibilities of the UN Regional Center," said the UN Secretary General.
