Politics Materials 5 February 2009 17:42 (UTC +04:00)

The United Nations (UN) Security Council (SC) appointed Japan to chair sanction committee against Iran under three permanent members' decision, the Iranian IRNA News Agency reported with reference to Yapon Times newspaper.

Japan is a non-permanent member of the UN SC. Japan was elected member of the UN SC for the tenth time. IRNA reported that Japan accepted this position unwillingly under pressure of U.S., UK and France.

None of countries has accepted this position this year. Yapon Times reported that U.S Permanent Ambassador to UN Suzan Rice met with Japanese Permanent Ambassador to UN Yukiyo Takaso. Rice asked Japan's support on the Iranian issue during the meeting.
