Azerbaijani opposition representatives meet with special representative for South Caucasus

A group comprising Azerbaijani oppositional parties met with EU Special Representative for the South Caucasus Peter Semneby.

"We discussed with Semneby results of the referendum on additions and changes in the Azerbaijani Constitution," the National Unity Movement leader Lala Shevket told Trend .

Semneby visited Azerbaijan on April 5. The meetings are planned to be held with the Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev, the Foreign Minister Elmar Mammadyarov within the visit.

The EU program Eastern Partnership will be discussed at the meetings.

The issue concerning imprisoned journalists was also raised at the meeting with participation of Azerbaijani Popular Front Party chairman Ali Kerimli and For Azerbaijan public forum head Eldar Namazov, Shevket said. "We held exchange of opinions regarding political prisoners, democracy," she said.

Semneby was interested whether the opposition will participate in municipal elections or not, she said. "If opposition members are represented in commissions, joint participation is not excluded in municipal elections," Shevket said. 

Semneby did not tell anything regarding other raised issues, she said.
