Turkmenistan to hold preventive measures to warn of А/H1N1 flu

Turkmen President Gurbangulu Berdimuhammedov decreed to take complex preventive measures to put a reliable barrier of spread of the dangerous infection - A/H1N1 flu in the country, the national TV channel Altyn Asyr reported on May 2.

The Turkmen president said the country's sanitary-epidemiological service has all the necessary facilities and modern equipment. In this regard, the Minister for Health and Medical Industry was commissioned to deploy, including through the media, comprehensive enlightenment work to prevent the spread of the new flu virus among the population.

Early 2009, Turkmenistan approved a national plan to be prepared for pandemic, interagency working group was formed to determine fields of action, tasks, responsibilities and operation measures in emergency situations.

In late February, Ashgabat hosted an international workshop with participation of experts from 50 countries on issues to be prepared for the flu pandemic. The World Health Organization organized the forum with participation of the Turkmen Health Ministry. Majority of people do not have immunity for this flu, unlike other types, including seasonal and bird whose spread can be prevented and supervised.
