Turkmen president orders to reconstruct Bereket town after earthquake

President of Turkmenistan Gurbanguly Berdymuhammedov instructed to proceed with the construction of the district center Bereket in the Balkan region that was affected by the earthquake in 2000 and the future of which is now linked to the large rail project Iran-Turkmenistan-Kazakhstan, local media reported today.

Town's mayor Nurmyradu Kirliev has received severe reprimand "for poor performance". The order came after the president inspected the implementation of the program on socio-economic development of the region and visits to industrial and social facilities, Altin Asir reported.

In near future Bereket will become one of the major railway junctions in the way of highway Uzen (Kazakhstan)-Gyzylgaya-Bereket-Etrek (Turkmenistan)-Gorgan (Iran) which will become a vital part of international transport and communications corridor North-South. Goods will be transported to different parts of the world via route which is the shortest one linking Europe and South Asia.
