Azerbaijan, Baku, May 12 / Trend , V. Zhavoronkova/ The beginning of transit of non-military cargo to Afghanistan via Uzbekistan is a logical step, Uzbek political expert Sergey Yezhkov said.
"Uzbekistan is interested in resolution in the conflict in Afghanistan as soon as possible and this [beginning transit of non-military cargo to Afghanistan] is a natural and logical step towards cooperation," Yezhkov told Trend over telephone from Tashkent.
Uzbek President Islam Karimov announced beginning of a transit of non-military cargo via Navoi airport for international coalition forces in Afghanistan under the NATO leadership on May 11, CA-News reported.
The President made the statement in a meeting with South Korean President Lee Myung-bak, Radio Liberty reported. The South Korea is overhauling the airport in the Navoi city.
The political expert said Uzbekistan has never denied its willingness and participation in the anti-terror operations conducted by NATO coalition and U.S. forces in Afghanistan.
"One must not always think that any action is targeted against anybody," Yezhkov said.
Uzbekistan's intentions to mediate in transport of non-military cargo to Afghanistan is attributed to the context of global anti-terror fight and is not targeted against any state, he said.
The NATO forces are conducting anti-terror operations in Afghanistan in response to the September 11th, 2001 acts of terrorism.
