An election bloc will be formed on the threshold of municipal elections in Azerbaijan.
"We will form a bloc after preparation of a charter before the end of the week," one of the founders of the bloc, chairman of the Republic Party of Azerbaijan (RPA) Subut Asadov told Trend .
Last week the Azerbaijani Parliament adopted a Law on Unification of municipalities. Under the law, the number of municipalities will be decreased from 2,757 to 1,766.
The municipal elections will be held in Azerbaijan in autumn 2009 and parliamentary elections - in autumn 2010. Before, the municipal elections were held twice - in 1999 and 2004.
According to Asadov, the name of the bloc will be the Democratic Election Centre.
Heads of the Democratic World of Azerbaijan, Free Republicans and National-Democratic party are discussing the joint participation in municipal elections. "Several parties are to join the new bloc," he said.
