European commission realizes project of supremacy of law in Georgia

The hotel "Tbilisi Marriott" hosted the presentation of the European project "Support to the supremacy of law in Georgia".

The presentation was attended by Minister for the execution of a sentence, probation and legal aid Dmitri Shashkin, First Deputy Minister of Justice Tina Burdzhaliani and European Commission Head of Mission in Georgia, Ambassador Lord Eklund.

Shashkin said Georgia is building a European democracy, which involves strengthening the supremacy of law.

The project is of particular importance from the standpoint that it is based on close cooperation of Georgian and foreign partners to facilitate the actions undertaken in the field of probation and legal aid. The project is also attached special importance to inter-agency coordination in order to reform the criminal law in Georgia, he said.

According to the Ambassador Eklund, this project aims at assisting in reforms of the Ministry of Justice and the Ministry for execution of punishment, probation and legal aid.
