Uzbekistan and Turkmenistan keep the same position on the effective use of water and energy resources of the Central Asia, Uzbek Ambassador to Turkmenistan, Sherzod Fayziev said.
Report on the 18th anniversary of Independence of the Republic of Uzbekistan has been today spread in the Turkmen media. The diplomat said the two states also support consolidation of efforts to stabilize Afghanistan and counteraction cross-border threats - terrorism, extremism and drug trafficking, as well as development of transport communications.
At the present stage, the two countries successfully cooperate and provide mutual support on key issues of the agenda as part of the UN, the CIS, the OIC and other international organizations.
The priority direction of cooperation is the oil and gas sector. "Uzbekistan supports the implementation of the project to create a gas pipeline from Turkmenistan to China, which passes through the territory of our country," stressed the ambassador, adding that Uzbekistan considers Turkmenistan as an important and reliable trade and economic partner and is ready for a major expansion of mutually beneficial cooperation.
In 2008, the trade turnover between the countries has increased almost 40 percent.
The article also highlighted the role of the joint commission on trade-economic, scientific-technical and cultural cooperation, which allows to carry out the agreements reached at the highest level and the Treaty on economic cooperation for 2008-2012.
