Azerbaijani-Iranian relations developing rapidly: Islamic Consultative Assembly

Azerbaijan and Iran are brotherly countries and their relations are developing rapidly, Islamic Consultative Assembly Social Affairs Commission Chairman Suleyman Jafarzadeh told journalists in Baku.

"Such visits positively impact the development of bilateral economic, political and public ties," he said.

An Iranian parliamentary delegation led by Jafarzadeh arrived in Azerbaijan today.

The delegation comprises seven officials, and visited the Alley of Honors to lay a wreath at the tomb of Azerbaijani leader Heydar Aliyev.

They also visited the Alley of Martyrs to commemorate Azerbaijani heroes who gave their lives for the country's independence and territorial integrity.

For the first time the parliamentary committees of the two countries held direct cooperation, Azerbaijani Parliamentary Committee on Social Policy Chairman Hadi Rajabli said.

"Earlier we had common relations in terms of parliamentary friendship groups," he said "This time it is a new type of cooperation, a cooperation of co-chairmen, committee members and committees themselves. This contributes to learning about social policy in Iran, as well as to cooperation with a view of establishing a legal framework."

During the visit of until Nov. 12, the Iranian delegation will meeting with members of the Iranian-Azerbaijani Friendship Group, First Deputy Speaker Ziyafat Asgarov and officials from the health and labor ministries.
