Georgia is on the verge of an A/H1N1 epidemic, Georgian National Center for Disease Control Deputy Director Shota Tsanava said today.

"We are on the verge of an epidemic, but this should not be perceived as some kind of threat," he said. "In December we always have an annual flu epidemic."

He noted that the flu has serious complications, which doctors can prevent with the help of patients.

"There is no need to close schools, kindergartens and other organizations," he added.

So far, Georgia recorded 227 confirmed human cases of A/H1N1 virus. Only four patients are receiving treatment at a hospital. All cases of the disease have appeared in a mild form.
