Voter turnout in Azerbaijani municipal elections hits 24.23 percent as of 3 p.m: CEC

Voter turnout in the Azerbaijani municipal elections is 24.23 percent (1, 111, 638 voters) by 3:00 p.m Dec. 23, the Azerbaijani Central Election Commission's (CEC) Elections Information Center told Trend News.

Voter turnout in the Azerbaijani municipal elections is 24.23 percent (1, 111, 638 voters) by 3:00 p.m Dec. 23, the Azerbaijani Central Election Commission's (CEC) Elections Information Center  told Trend .

The Salyan-Neftchala District Election Commission (DEC) No.60 recorded the high voter turnout-23.56 percent in the Azerbaijani municipal elections.

Azerbaijan launched the municipal elections. The country has about 4.6 million registered voters.

Voting began in constituencies throughout the country at 08:00 a.m.

About 15,682 members are planned to be elected to 1,718 municipalities. Municipal elections were held twice in 1999 and 2004.

Azerbaijan has registered about 31,000 candidates, including 6,108 women, for municipal members. Candidates from 18 political parties have been registered for elections. Candidates refer to 30 political parties.

The CEC will provide information on ballots at 3:00 p.m., 5:00 p.m. and 7:00 p.m.

The municipal elections will be finished at 7:00 p.m.

The CEC registered 48,388 observers, including 1,160 local observers and 52 foreign observers.
