The Georgian Foreign Ministry hopes for continuation of the EU Special Representative for South Caucasus Peter Semneby's mission, the Georgian First Deputy Foreign Minister Giga Bokeria said.

So he commented on a information of the Radio Liberty that the EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Catherine Ashton made a proposal to abolish the posts of special representatives of the EU in Moldova and South Caucasus countries. Special Representative in the region is the Swedish diplomat Peter Semneby, who was appointed to this position in February 2006 In February 2010 the EU Council prolonged Peter Semneby's mandate until August 31, 2010.

The Georgian Deputy Foreign Minister Giga Bokeria said that Tbilisi holds fruitful cooperation with the EU Special Representative. "We appreciate Peter Semneby very positively and works carried out by his own representation on important areas of the country, and we hope that this effort will continue", Bokeria said.
