OSCE Centre in Turkmenistan holds workshop on women prisoners’ rights

A workshop organized by the OSCE and dedicated to the international legal standards relating to the treatment of prisoners, and especially with women prisoners, ended in Ashgabat, the OSCE Centre said.

A workshop organized by the OSCE and dedicated to the international legal standards relating to the treatment of prisoners, and especially with women prisoners, ended in Ashgabat, the OSCE Centre said.

The three-day course was envisaged for employees of penitentiary institutions and staff of the Interior Ministry, who were able to get familiarized with the experience in the sphere of health of pregnant women prisoners, lactating women prisoners, as well as women prisoners, whose children live together with them in the penitentiary institutions.

"This course has contributed to improving the skills of participants needed to ensure the rights of women prisoners, who have specific and unique needs", Begoña Piñeiro Costas, employee of the Human Dimension Office in Turkmenistan said.

Leading international experts from Austria, Bulgaria and Latvia attended the workshop as Lecturers.

The Centre provided the participants of the course and the library of the Police Academy with the information materials on human rights, protection of prisoners' health.
